I like Jonny Depp, he is so versitile. I mean look at the roles he's played in...he truly has a gift for acting. And he doesnt just rely on his looks to get him acting jobs.

Okay, just my 2 cents, but I think all the giggling teenage girls who keep answering "Johnny Depp" need to put away the strawberry lip gloss and broaden their horizons a bit. Depp is a great and versatile actor, no doubt, but he would be the first to tell you he's not (yet) in the league of actors like Anthony Hopkins, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Ben Kingsley, or Dustin Hoffman. He is very entertaining, and I enjoy watching him work, but he's not the best in the world at this time.

Johnny Depp is a popular choice here it seems and who am i to argue with the majority. He really is a fantastic actor and has proved it by playing a huge variety of roles in major feature films aswell as independantly produced movies. My performance of his is in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, truly fantastic.

Other notbale movie stars who could run Johnny close would be Kevin Spacey, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks and i am a huge fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman too.

Michael Gambon is an English actor who some might not know as he usually treads the boards (works in theatre). Most people think actor and assume films/tv, some theatre actors are the best at their profession by a long shot.

Also it depends on the job required, Steve Carrell in the 40 year old virgin is a fantastic performance as an actor but comedic performances do not usually atain as much merit but can usually be harder than working a dramatic performance. His role in Anchorman is full of scene stealing moments and the role he plays demands some hard work in comedic timing to make them work.

It really does depend on preference though so really no one is right and no one i wrong. /Diplomat
