Start your research with a trip to the National Endowment for the Arts website, if you are from the United States:

Then, head to Google and to your local public library to do some research.
There ARE grants and fellowships out there for artists, however it is not an easy process to get one. They are competitive and the applications are long. There are people who's only job is to research grants and write grant proposals for organizations that need funding.
But, this doesn't mean it is impossible! Do your homework and you could find something that is just right for you.

Spend a few hours at the public library and have something to take notes (names, addresses, telephone numbers, deadlines, requirements, etc); ask the librarian to let you see the Grant Directory. Also, see the links below:
