Trying to remember two of my favourite cartoons from this period. My memory is awful.
One was set in the time (perhaps time travel?) of the Incas. The hero piloted a space shuttle called the Condor. It also had an awesome theme tune....
The other was set in space. The son was traveling through planet systems trying to find his father, while being continually chased by plant organism which had organic vehicles with saw wheel arms...
Any ideas?

Dude! Seriously I love these cartoons! This is my youth we are talking about!
the first one you mention is called "Mysterious Cities of Gold", I used to really love it when they would put the there pendant pieces together to summon the Condor!
The second show is called "Ulysse 31" and is based on homers Odyssey. I really liked this as a kid and loved the anime style of it.
There are loads of websites out there dedicated to these cartoons so if you want more info on them just google for them now you know there names :)

It wasn't "Ulysses 31", it was "Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors"!
I think I half remember "City of Gold", but I don't remember time travel or space shuttles, but I do remember the kid finding a giant golden condor robot/machine thing that could fly, inside one of the pyramids allowing him to escape from the elders or whatever supposedly built everything. Were they grey old men or aliens?
I also used to watch "Battle of the Stars" with the bird themed costumes, and "Dungeons and Dragons".

Ulysses - was the one with the little boy and
Mysterious Cities of Gold was the one with the condor.

The first one is The Mysterious Cities of Gold, ther second is Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors. Sadly I think neither are out on DVD. :-(

My God this takes me back the 1st one is City Of Gold

city of gold was the first one the second I think was ulyseyes a homage to homers odessy a very long poem
