Could be spondylosis - you should go see your GP immediately! It's not that serious and you may have to wear a neck brace for a wee while but don't get advice of people on here go to your GP is the safest way. Good luck!

The term spondylosis is usually applied to the spine and refers to a degenerative condition that affects the vertebrae and the facet joints. Spondylitis implies that the joints are inflamed. There is often excess bone formation at the edges of the vertebrae (lipping) and in some conditions the ligaments become calcified. This occurs in ankylosing spondylitis when the spine eventually ends up rigid, stiff and inflexible. Patients with spondylitis normally have restricted and painful movements. All parts of the spine can be affected, but the neck is probably the most common site.

This icould be your outer muscles working too hard to hold your head up.

If you sit at a computer most of the day, read on.

Your vertibrea are supposed to be held together by deep muscles in your neck. If you sit on one place for too long you find your head moves forward and the inblance of your (heavy) head being forward is compensated by the outer muscles working too hard.

The deep muscles start to go weak.

Another sypmtom ( and confirmation that the inner muscles are not working properly ) is a "clunky neck"

There are a couple of very sublte deep neck muscle physio stretched you can do - best get a physio to show you. These will strenghten the deep neck muscles.

To help calm the pain use a deep heat cream or something, but you'll need to fix the posture or you'll end up with long term problems.

yeah i get it when i am sitting in front of the computer. i honestly think that it is just tension. there are two ways of making it feel better. you could either roll your shoulders forward and backwards every day to loosen up the muscles for the day or you could get someone to give you a massage to work out the tension.
good luck
