I'd like to join a gym in London that isn't too expensive, so Holmes Place is out. I was a member of LA Fitness which was OK but I think I'm after a smaller and more personal club.
Anyone have any SERIOUS suggestions, experience or ideas please.

Scotte84, you may well have seen my picture in a magazine, I'm a model, doofus.

You wanted serious suggestions.
Well seriously your a mug if you join any gym.

Go out and have fun to get fit. Sports clubs are either free or small registration to compete in a league format.
For toning; you have the park, a bike, some steps or the local pool.
I understand your climate is colder than mine, but the only people who go to the gym rather than the beach here are universally recognised as total w*nkers.

Look in your local Yellow Pages or Thompsons and then go and visit them before you decide.

It is also worth looking for the pay per session rather than a year and a months notice contract.

They tend to be less attractive from additional features such as juice bar etc but are better educated to personal requirments.

Fitness First. At the moment they are offering 1 week for free. It is quite reasonable as well and when you join you get a starter pack and a Personal Training session. The actual gyms are nice too. You get free drinks, newspapers and samples.

Fitness First. They give you lots of benefits especially if you're a member. it isn't too expensive yet it isn't cheap as well. They also have amazing interiors that will inspire you more to get fit and healthy. It's a great place to workout!

What's the point? Most people pay for a year, then don't go more than three times. Unless you're going to attend REALLY regularly, you'll be wasting money. Just a thought!

why waste your money when you can run around the park with holding hand weights or go swimming that good for you to. Gyms i think are over rated and we can get most of our daily exercise by normal means.

Good luck what ever you choose.

Sounds like you need more than a gym if you're gonna put a fake picture on your profile.

SEEN THAT PICTURE IN A MAGAZINE !
