I admit I ain't so good in English. (Is my grammar correct?)

Here's what I want to understand in simpler terms:

Variety stores displayed tenacity in the fiscal year 2001 to 2002 when their number grew by 14% to 509,345 from 448,357 the previous year.
While supermarkets account for a majority of purchase in peso value, some 38%, variety stores are close behind, at 32%.

Variety stores are doing well, and more are opening, but they are not yet doing quite as well as supermarkets.

When translating a document, your target market is VERY important. In most economies we do not have VARIETY STORES, so you would have to find the correct term for that as a starter. If the term is however accepted where the document is to be read, then use it. The easiest way to make complex statements simpler, is by using multiple sentences.

English is NOT my mother tongue, but I would most probably use the following:
The number of variety stores increased from 448,357 to 509,345 in 2001/2002. This represented 14% growth.

38% of purchases in peso value was from supermarkets, followed closely by 32% from variety stores.

In 2000-2001, there were 448,357 variety stores. The stores were persistant and unwilling to give in to competition, and by 2001-2 there were 509,345 of them, 14% more. Most money, 38% of it, was spent in supermarkets, but nearly as much, 32%, was spent in variety stores.

Variety stores had strong growth from 2001 to 2002 growing by 14 per cent.
Supermarkets sell more than variety stores but variety stores sell almost as much.

"Ain't" is not proper grammar. Hope this helps.
