try this:
1.switch on the printer and see if any warnings are displayed.like catridge not present or paper not present or some door getting jammed.
2.see if the conection between the printer and the pc is proper.
3.see if the driver is properly installed, reinstall if necessary.take a test printout from the printer setttings window.
3.restart the computer if nothing works.sometimes it helps.
4.call a technician if the all above fails

Check it with a qualified Cannon Service Engineer. He will assist you to make it properly working.
I doubt your 'selection' in the printer icon with a tick might have vanished. Check and correct it again, right from the beginning. Don't meddle with any of the parts in the Printer hardware with any sharp tools.

try turning the printer off and back on(rebooting). Then make sure it's still plugged into your computer. Finally, go to your printers properties and make sure the correct port is selected(ltp1 or usb)

Disconnect everything, plug everything back in....Rerun your disc.... be sure to reinstall... See if this works....Otherwise you have to contact Cannon. I am sure there is a 800 number somewhere on the handbook or machine......
