Love is a condition or phenomenon of emotional primacy, or absolute value. Love generally includes an emotion of intense attraction to either another person, a place, or thing; and may also include the aspect of caring for or finding identification with those objects, including self-love. Love can describe an intense feeling of affection, an emotion or an emotional state. In ordinary use, it usually refers to interpersonal love, an experience usually felt by a person for another person. Love is commonly considered impossible to define.
The concept of love, however, is subject to debate. Some deny the existence of love. Others call it a recently invented abstraction, sometimes dating the "invention" to courtly Europe during or after the middle ages (though this is contradicted by the sizable body of ancient love poetry). Others maintain that love really exists, is not an abstraction, but is indefinable; being a quantity which is spiritual, metaphysical, or philosophical in nature. Some psychologists maintain that love is the action of lending one's "boundary" or "self esteem" to another. And others attempt to define love and apply the definition to everyday life.

You can tell anybody that "I LOVE YOU"
- that means you love some one like father, mother, children, a girl friend, a boy friend, etc. but the meaning will change according to what, when, where, etc. of your I love you context and its climax.
Love is not ending with few words, it is a feeling/affection of a person to another person, earth, etc as you said in your question.
For a believer in God, he/she can love someone/something, if blessed by God. Of-course its thinking by human...and more..
I would like to tell you an example of love when parents love each-other with warm affection there is a result, that is a new born child.... there are more examples of love in defferent situations and circumstances but this space is not enough for it...
However, I hope your question is completely answered and I thank you for sharing knowledge....

You are right, it is a way of being not just about adjustment or agreement between two people to have a 'good' time to-gether.
Least understood word, due to unpreparedness to give or offer what it demands !

"love" is an abstract term. putting the world "love" and "actually" together is actually an oxymoron. "Actually" implies concrete, measurable, etc. An abstract is not measurable nor is it concrete. It is an ideal which can be different for each person, depending on their cultural/religious/social etc beliefs.
So, the only person who can define love, is every person unto themselves ^_^
