A bank may be suspicious if you endorse such a large check to someone else and they may refuse it on money-laundering grounds.

But otherwise there is no legal reason why a US$ check payable in the USA and made out to an individual cannot be endorsed over to another individual for deposit in his or her account.

Last year a Candian bank refused to allow me to deposit a government cheque made out to me for under $200 into a company account. I had never encountered that before, although it is the general rule in England as well.

Ask your bank for advice. Nobody else can tell you anything authoritative.

You'd better make sure that check is good before passing on to anyone else or you could be sued the moment your signature is on it ... and I am talking felony. You are better off cashing that check with a bank, waiting for it to clear, and then transferring the money to the intended party in the form of a cashier's check or money order.

Write on the back "Pay to the order of...." and the name of the other person.

Not all banks accept such an endoresement

Go too your bank and tell them you want to make a wire transfer to this other persons account and they will do it for you.
