Daily more and more people talk of the history of man being much longer than once thought ... religions will be forced to rework them selves as they have adapted in the past ... extinction and the future are only concepts yet to be revealed

As we fight our daily fears, we search for our space ... our protected space where we will feel loved and nobody can take that away from us ... somehow knowing that this space will once again disappear, keeps us from feeling comfortable in that space ... so our comfort must come from the smile we have for what is about to come around that next corner ...

the next corner can be our new level of existence, or it can be the smile of a little girl ... maybe just a cool breeze taking the edge off ... or a cold drink of water ... the nightmare awaits us, that we do not have to fear ... all of our experiences are not just to be avoid the bad and like the good, how would we ever go out in bad weather if that were the case?

Are you saying we can’t have any faith in the future because things we take for granted or have faith in now are constantly undermined and altered so we have to be happy for what is around the corner, whatever level of experience that may be? It seems you are saying be happy with the very simple things that you have now or anticipate coming. However, your statement is contradictory - the nightmare that awaits us, what nightmare if we accept that the only thing that is permanent is change? And I just don’t understand the last paragraph. Your statement seems quite existential, reflects some Buddhist philosophy and it’s intrinsically optimistic but I just don’t understand the thread of fear running through it. Of course the future is only a concept yet to be revealed; by definition it doesn't exist yet. Maybe people fear too much because there is no personal space to be embraced. Maybe we would feel better is we embrace the whole universe instead, then there would be no need to search for space.

The broad historical perspective set for this passage is to induce a mental state of doubtfulness for the purpose of a deeper brooding upon life from a personal standpoint – a practice that would have been difficult without having doubt. This is the point where almost all readers of this passage would be able to relate themselves to. This gives me a sense that whatever is going to follow henceforth would be related to my own condition in life. I think this is ingenious.

I find that this, in general, is a very rational line of thought with a clear optimistic undertone centred in the middle. There is also a show of romantic attitude towards life. The notion that 'comfort must come from the smile we have for what is about to come around the next corner' is a beautifully portrayed thought but there is an air of vulnerability about it especially as there are mentions of 'the smile of a little girl’ and ‘cool breeze taking off the edge of water’ and then ‘cold drink of water’.

The urge for writing comes from the realisation of a need to relate to the wider world around, and from a strong desire for change towards that - a profound change as 'the next corner can be our new level of existence' is intriguing not superficial.

This doubtfulness roused at the start runs throughout the passage and it leaves us with a thought-provoking question that many of us would like to consider. This question is in fact an embodiment of or the extract of this doubt and possibly the main purpose of this entire ‘statement’.

Interested that some people like this, but not me...

"Daily more and more people talk of the history of man being much longer than once thought"....well I'm sorry this is not a daily conversation piece that I encounter.

I've tried to connect at some level with the rest of it but I'm afraid I've just got tired/bored/frustrated with it - combination of it all being rather non-sensical + I simply don't agree with it. If I was being ungracious I would call it pretentious existential pseudo-philosphical claptrap

Sorry!
