You could also try Kelkoo.

You can install XP on the external hard drive but if you will have serious difficulty if you want to swap it from pc to another as each machine will need it's own drivers and it also against the Microsoft Licensing agreement.

If you really want to put an OS on it choose a good Linux distro as this can adapt to which ever machine you boot it into. I woould however keep and external Hard Drive as a backup facility which you can put a ghost image of each machines operating system on if your PC (especially Windows) goes belly up.

plug in all the cables and turn it on that's it. if theres some software with the hard drive install that by puting the disk in the dvd/cd drive and your away 90% of the time XP does all the work for you and all you have to do is read the prompts. Anyway didnt you have a set of distructions that came with the drive?

Aint sure but as far as I know, it can only be used as a storage device! Your system wont see it as a logical drive in the bios. I dont think anyone has found a way to do this yet. I.E. a drive must be on the hard drive bus to be seen.
