My WI has a DJ visiting and we were asked to pick some classical music for her to play. I asked for Poor Wandering One from Pirates of Penzance. She wants to know why I like this one so much and I can't explain. I love the ah,ah,ah,ah,ah bit but how do I describe it?

You like a song for the following reasons:
1. The words are beautiful
2. The tune is romantic / catchy / melancholic etc etc
3. The tune is nostalgic
4. The singer's voice is deep
5. The composition is good. The harmony of instruments in the compostion is good
etc etc
Tell her one or more reasons as given above..

Does it make up part of a chorus or a bridge to the next part of the song? If so, you could say that you like the way the song flows from one part to the next, especially the part you mentioned, as you think it suits the song well and gives it some depth. Keep the explanation simple, it is better than being lost for words!

lol your ah ah's should do it! I love the ah ah, ah ah in Green Day's boulevard of broken dreams, so i think everyone can relate to a song with ah ah's and know what you mean cos it hits the spot :-)

Tell her to mind her own beeswax and just spin those wheel of steel. Ask her what her favourite song is and then ask 'why', whatever she says, just dis it.
