Moh's scale is very subjective. It determines the hardness of an object. Basically when u rub 2 objects together one of it will give way. That will have a lower value on the scale. Therefore, by placing materials on such a scale we can deterine which ones are harder, and which ones have lower tenacities. ie a steel knife (6.5) is unable to damage topaz (8) when forced together. Any shavings formed came from the knife.
