Please DO NOT use baby wipes they are just about the worst thing to use on leather as it will destroy the finish and remove pigment.

Saddle soap is too strong on todays modern finishes and lux flakes and fairy liquid are specailly formulated these days with extra salts to clean dishes and clothes. We have spoken to the manufacturers and they agree that it will break down finish on leather.

Leather should be maintained by a regular wipe down with a damp cloth, this helps to rehydrate the leather and 'condition' it. Then every 2-3 months use a good leather foam cleaner to give it a good clean. A good leather protector will inhibit dirt and grease from soaking into the leather and make it easier to clean next time. This should be applied every 6-12 months.

In the case of a pale colour you may need a stronger cleaner to help with dye transfer, the application of leather protector will also inhibit this from occuring.

All products should be water based and must not contain any oils, waxes or silicones as these will break down the finish.

i have a leather sofa, a toddler and a open fire, lol i know what you mean. mines a dark blue sofa so shows up all the milk staines and chocolate! i got a damp cloth with a little fairy liquid and wiped it. dont get it too wet though, then get a little leather cleaner and go over it to protect the leather. if you havent any leather cleaner, don't worry about it. also i have recently found babies wet wipes to be pretty good for those stubborn marks!

I have a cream sofa too and its forever getting marks and prints on it. You can buy leather cleaning kits from wilkosons. Otherwise use hot soapy water and a bit of elbow grease.

A leather specialist told me to use Lux soap flakes just a little in tepid water.

DO NOT USE SADDLE SOAP!!! Yes it's good but requires plenty of elbow grease. Best stuff I've found is by Lieberon - it feeds, cleans and, if you choose one with a pigment, it will restore the colour - best of all - it smells of marzipan!!

Dilute non-biological washing powder and gently dab in circles, when you have finished rub saddle soap all over the sofa to protect it.
