Only lend money to a friend with the idea it is a gift. If not the chances are that you won't get it back and it will ruin your friendship.

Don't lend out any money that you can't afford to do without. Only so much so that it's not a huge loss if they don't pay you back. My policy is that I don't lend anyone money, I give them money and don't expect to get it back from them. If they happen to pay me back, then it's just a bonus.

Tht depends on you buddy, how much you can affoard. If you have $2000 savings with you, i guess u can lend a good and trusting friend up to $500, but on the otherhand, how well do you know your friend?
Let me tell you something about loan mate, money is such a thing tht friends can become enemy, wht if he doesnt return your money? people who borrow money because they are in trouble, but are they able to repay? they will go in trouble all the time....
You should talk clearly and dont think about will he or she mind it, you shld think abt you first.

I'd lend my friend what i can if i have extra money as long as he'll be using it for something really important. i wouldn't lend a friend money he'll be using for stupid things. not because i'm somebody's friend, i'll be obliged to lend this friend money. i still gotta think of my own expenses and set aside money for emergency purposes.

For a good friend, as much as I could at the time. Right now, I'd have to turn them down though, because we just don't have any to spare.
