what is out side universe?

No one really knows. It is believed that beyoned the confines of the universe there is nothing. As such the universe has empty space to expand into. Some believe there are more universes in that space, but so far we have no real evidence either way.

Nothing is outside the universe - that is what defines it as a universe.

Consider this:

If there IS something else outside of the universe, then presumably I could throw an imaginary dart through space and it would at some point reach this "boundary" between "inside" and "outside" the universe. Once the dart goes beyond this boundary, what would happen? Would it stop? Would it bounce back? Would it just disappear? The answer as far as we know is that none of these things would happen, because although the universe is finite, it is also unbounded. What would actually happen to the dart if given enough time is that it would come full circle and hit you in the back of the head.

Finite but unbounded!!!

Rawlyn.

The universe is not expanding exactly, it's more like stretching endlessly. beyond the boundaries of the universe the laws of the 3 dimensional universe might be different, so space exists for certain only within the boundaries of the universe.

well, there is no space outside the universe, it creates space as it expands. We can barely imagine this, because all things that we see expanding in normal life, expand into something.

Still you couldn't exclude that it is expanding in some higher dimension (like a circle expanding on a sphere, say). But I doubt we'll ever know.

Seems like a contradiction doesn't it? If the universe includes everything, then it can't possibly include anything extra. Yet we are expected to believe that it is expanding into what?

Beyond the boundary of the universe is just unending emptiness. Hence universe is expanding into the unending empty space.

Universe is expanding in terms of the comet-explosion and nucleological processes.

it is not expandiing into anything. consider this example. you have ballon with two houses placed inside. when you blow the ballon it expands .the two houses inside will move far from each other. it does not mean that the houses inside are moving. the samme way our universe expands into itself. the houses inside the baloon are like the galaxies. at one point of there will be nothing in the universe like the ballon which will eventually burst.

Quiet Intresting Question.

Well, no one can clearly state ( as of yet ) to where or what the universe is expanding.

But i too believe in the baloon concept mentioned just above (but i dont think it will ever burst)
