Do I believe in the morals behind the story, or do I believe that the actual events of the story took place?
The book is fiction. Of course it never happened. However, that doesn't mean that I can't suspend my disbelief when I read it and become engrossed in the story. Nor does that mean that I don't believe in the fact that love transcends appearance.

Many people who have seemed tgo be hopeless cases have been totally transformed just by being loved. So yes, I believe the essence of the story. I assume you are not asking whether we believe the actual story plot.

Yes. I've watched Ripley's Believe it or Not for years and they do feature stories like that. Love conquers all.

The story teaches us not to judge a book by it's cover. I do believe that what comes around goes around. Those who do good deserve to have good happen to them. Likewise, those who do bad deserve to have bad things happen to them.
