Eventually it will be recognised that the division of Cyprus is a fact and it is unlikely the island could return to it's pre-1974 state without bloodshed. The only solution is two semi - autonomous federal states ruled by one sovereign government.
At the moment while those in the North would back this, those in the South have rejected it.
I think this will change in the next couple of years. The island is losing out on substantial EU funds which could benefit them greatly.
Meanwhile Turkey aspires to become a member of the EU and only in taking a proper debate on the Cyprus issue will they be taken seriously.
It should be remembered that although Turkish troops did invade they did so to save the Turkish Cypriots. Also it began with the Greek Cypriots fighting each other.
A resolution must be found but as there is displaced people on both sides of the Green Line it can't simply be a reclaiming of property. It's got to be a long term political solution.
Possibly some kind of compensation for those that lost property.

Not likely when there is still a generation of people living in Cyprus which were displaced by Turkey during the invasion. It is not easy to give these people back the homes as now there is a load of turkish people who have lived there for along time.

An age old problem in many parts of the world.

Sure they can get on as neighbours when Turkey pulls out their troops and stops occupying the North of Cyprus!!

Turkey had dumped all their unwanted nationals in the North, they don't want to leave it to the Greek and Turkish Cypriot people.
