Rock music is usually defined by timing, pace, and instruments used. Generally rock music is in 4/4 time, with an 8th note count. It's usually at a reasonable pace of 140bpm or more. Most rock band consist of, drums, bass guitar, at least one electric guitar, and a vocalist at minimum, but 2 guitars (rhythm and lead) are more common. A lot of rock bands use keyboards, piano, or hammond organs too. This is how i would describe rock as very loose outline, but there are no real rules.

Uugg the caveman invented pop music when he discovered that if he banged two bones or rocks together (aka rock music) it made a sound he liked.
However Uugg's parents immediately told him it was crap and they never listened to anything so awful... and you couldn't even understand the words.... Uugg's explanation that a proper language hadn't actually been quite invented yet wouldn't have made any difference to their opinions, had he been able to actualy make the explanation. He only knew their opinion by the way they hit him on the head... which also invented head banging music.
Hope this clears things up!

one drummer, one bassist, one lead and/or rhythm guitarist, either incorporated with a lead vocalist or one on its own, original and self-written music, with a bit of sex and drugs, which when mixed up and applied makes you either wanna fight, f***, or just bang your head. (the white stripes are an exception, they rock with slightly less than normal ingredients)
