Why does he wanna be so popular? In my country the popular kids are mostly the ones that get pregnant in school or drop out. So being popular is not the coolest thing, cause if u screw up EVERYBODY notices. Nerds are sexy too, I would rather have a nerd with brains than a stupid guy that can't read my love letters.
Tell him to be himself and not change for anyone. He's cool the way he is.

Why is being popular so important? What is most important is finding a nice bunch of friends to hang out with. If he changes his personality to become popular, he will be miserable as he's really pretending to be somebody who he's not.
