If you were to isolate the smell from what causes the smell, would it still be possible to become sick?

yes, as while you smell, particles do enter your body but its in such a less amount that they cant do harm

Germs can cause smells, they are not the smell itself. Yuo can catch airborn viruses and bacteria that have no odor.

Well, if you kept smelling cigarette smoke constantly, day in and day out for years, they claim the second hand smoke can give one cancer. That's an example. So it's safe to say yes, probably in many more instances.......
