Well, the best club i ever went to in Amsterdam was called Escape. Its a big club in rembrandt square i think. The woman in there are HOT! Only catch is you need to get in with some ladies- very strict doormen. But once ur in, ur IN - u dig? ;-)

Ask for the "black clubs" most are not in the center of amsterdam (where the tourists are). A lot are only open on special occasions. If you want to know what's coming up, check out the posters in the South east area (near Amsterdam Arena) or in the Osdorp area (South West part of the city- " outside the ring" ) These aren't touristy places though.

The RLD has mainly the sex clubs. They are more sad than sexy but if you're into live sex acts done by bored people, you'll enjoy it.

Escape is full of kids though - as are most of the clubs. Hotel Arena is large and has some nights as hip hop.

If you want better clubs though.. you have to go to Rotterdam.

Other trendy Clubs/ Restaurants: Jimmy Woo's (if you can get in), Hotel Arena, lots of bars in de Pijp (near Albert Cuypstraat where there's a huge flea market). Cafe de Jaren (go outside on the terrace if the weather is nice). Panama. Note that cocktails, if you can get them, are pretty expensive & weak; water is not generally free. Plus you have to pay to pee - the toilet ladies are pretty militant in the bars. Beer and wine is cheaper ! V

The Melkweg and Paradiso have good music acts, Escape is a popular disco, Odeon is for 25-plus I think.
Arena is good for dancing, drinking and staying http://www.arena.nl/
Boom Chicago is a nice 'eat and enjoy standup comedy' club, really worthwile!
I agree about Jimmy Woo.
Skip the red light district clubs, just go there and walk around. It is amazing to see, but I think the clubs and bars are a rip off
Grand Cafe De Jaren is a good cafe for afternoons
