Since this young lady is a student of yours then I expect that you do know something of her interests and her lifestyle.

I would adapt my gift to her from the above as well as my own budget.

Modest gifts could be a gift certificate for a manicure at a nice salon; a craft project kit; a book of something of her interst to her or to benefit her;;how about an attractive accessory i.e. a cute purse; or a gift certificate to a nice movie or a play.

If your budget has a higher limit, then offer to take her and a friend or hers and/or her mom to a nice brunch at a fancy hotel. If you are near a large city then the sky is literally the limit. A planetarium is a great way to become "star-struck"! Often universities will also have these facilities too. A subscription to an appropriate magazine would be also fun as well as a monthly reminder of your kindness in remembering her birthday. There are a lot of Ceramic Painting studios now, and that would be a fun place to go for her B'Day to make something that could last her lifetime.

Fondly with Happy Birthday Glitter!

When you were 14 what was your favorite book?

If Lit is not your bent, I suggest The Vines of Yaraby by Frank Yearby.

Do you give all your students presents?
Are you male or female?

Customize her a charm bracelet. You could put a few charms on there that show things she likes (sports, music, animals) stuff like that is really thoughtful, and she can always add to it as she gets older.
