My favs are Jimmy Page and Hendrix, love Mike Mcready from PJ, Billy Corgan...I basically need some new songs to learn on the old girl. Not much of a metal guy.

Well, when I was younger, shredding was all the rage, so some early influences were Eddie Van Halen and Joe Satriani. The thing I like about a few of their songs is the employment of two-hand tapping. It creates a beautiful tone on the guitar, and while it was passe for a few years, technical guitar parts employing those sorts of techniques are coming back in bands like Minus the Bear, and The Mars Volta (these bands sound nothing like Van Halen or Satriani, they are modern, currently touring and releasing albums, have very cool guitar in them, and ocassionally you can tell that they must have listened to some impressive 80's guitar growing up). As far as those two guitarists go try Cathedral or Spanish Fly for Eddie Van Halen and Baroque, Midnight and The Forgotten Pt. 1 for Joe Satriani.

Hmm, I must agree with Hendrix, also Santana. Although a bit more recently, Claudio Sanchez (From the band Coheed and Cambria) have really inspired me to work on my face-melting, merciless hooks.

I get influenced by alot of different guitarists over the years, but the guitarists that have truely grasped me emotionally are Steve Vai and George Lynch. But the list goes on much longer.

Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth

I think a person can only really count the guitarists they've seen in person. Listening and seeing are too different from each other.

Cream and Eric Clapton, especially his solo live stuff.
Also, Django Rhinhardt, a wizard on the guitar.
