Aloe, as all plants, originally did live outside! Is your climate very dry and hot? Aloe was known to the Egyptians (who used it in mummification). If your climate is like Egypt (or what you would imagine Egypt to be like - I've never been there!), then probably you can keep aloe outside. If not, you will probably want to bring it in for the winter.

Being and English gardener, I have never had aloe outdoors. What a delightful idea!

Although I live further north than you we do have a big city micro climate here. I put my aloe vera out for the summer but when the frost start coming I bring it in, it certainly will not stand hard frost if you do not get them give it a try. I have a friend who lives in Portugal and it can get very cold there although they do not get much below O degrees, hers is fine in her garden

I have three Aloe Vera growing in my garden; I have them in the pot. They are absolutely thriving. Luckily I have a big canopy and they are well protected in the winter. All you have to do is to save them from frost, cold whether is ok.

Keep it in a pot, that way if the temperature drops or you are due heavy rain you can rescue the aloe and bring it inside. I have one in a pot on my balcony in switzerland and it's fine for the summer, but I bring it indoors at the end of September.

It will grow very easily as a house plant, mine lives on the kitchen window sill, and is handy to use if anyone burns themselves on the Aga - just snip off a leaf and rub the cut end on the burn.
