It's the purloined letter syndrome. What should in fact be obvious becomes nearly invisible by familiarity. The "hide in plain sight" phenomenon. People walk through familiar spaces only noting changes, not the things which have been the same for some time. It's a natural allotment of attention, very rational.
But it means that when something unusual happens in a familiar setting, it sometimes takes longer to register than one would think wise. Quick response time can be critical at times, you know. It's one of those things people have to train themselves to do efficiently, but it works.
Problem is, there is really no substitute for being conscious of all around you and efficiently processing your necessary response to it at all times. It's called being awake and alert, and adults just have to do that thing, you know?

Because the obvious is usually the truth & the truth hurts. Those who are aware & are in power will subjugate the obvious/truth & spin their own "truths" for their own ends.

No. often times i'm "oblivious", to the obtrusive...... :o( LOL! EDIT: "SEE I advised you, i presumed it mentioned obtrusive to the obtrusive..." LOL! that's obvious i could desire to circulate to mattress....
