A lot of my friends have that kind of piercing. As long as it's done by a professional you should be ok. Everyone has different reactions to piercings. If you've had other ones on your ears and were ok then you should be fine.

Good luck!

The fact is in most states it is against health department regulations to pierce cartalidge with a gun as it can shatter the cartalidge, in most states they do it anyway even though it is illeagle for good reason.
Ear piercing guns are dangerous for many reasons starting with they can spread disease, you can not properly sterilize them and as such they can pas hepititus from one person to another. Go to a professional body piercer who uses one time use sterilized hollow piercing needles.
Don't take a chance with your health go to a professional that knows about sterilization, who is first aid trained to know what to do if something goes wrong, the girl at the mall with the piercing gun has had maybe 3 hours of training at best and will not even know what to do if you pass out.
Search yahoo or google for "the dangers of piercing guns" and see the many sites dedicated to educating people on how bad they really are, go read even one of them and you will never think of getting an piercing with one of those things ever again.

I have cartilage piercings in both ears and they were done with piercing guns with positive results. I did notice a slight bump on the back of the piercing sight that lasted for about a year. I have heard of other people with this same issue and they were fine, too. Just keep them clean and be weary of hair stylists pulling out hoops!

It's more painful as it goes through cartalidge rather than fat and will also take longer to heal, the tongue is one I have heard stories about deaths from- apparently some tongues have 2 veins and others one down the centre, the piecer needs to check the underside of your tongue and you can't have it pierced if you have only one vein- but even then I can;t imagine it'd really kill you, apparently though the belly button is the most dangerous- it can contain umbilical cord material still which can get back into your blood stream and poison you- so said my friend's mum, and she's a doctor.

they used to pierce the top the cartlidge with a gun, though that was like 10 years ago! i think now they will do it with a needle as i think the problem was with the gun that it can make the top of the ear shatter.

I have quite a lot of piercings, I had the top of my ears done years ago and they were done with a gun, I know they say you are not supposed to but mine were all ok, and it's less painful too!!

It is safe if you have it done by a professional. Try go to someone who is recommended, and try not to to a dodgy looking shop. There are nerve endings in your cartlidge and if damaged they could paralyse you. It sounds morbid but be careful! Make sure you clean it properly as an infection may also cause problems. Its painful so beware that you may not be able to sleep on that side for a while!
