When you wash you dishes, and they are dirt with an oily stuff, you use a detergent. The emulsion that the detergent and the oily substance form helps you wash the dirt. One part of the emulsion can be mixed to the water, so that water can finally "push" the dirt out of the dishes.

there was a vast emulsion of chemicals in the fish tank when i applied the PH neutralizer
