We were told by our Elders that snakes are awakened by thunder in the Month of February, and emerge from their holes or where ever it is that they hibernated, and told that their young are hatched in the Month of August, but what month do they go into hibernation, and do all snakes hibernate?

"Hey School me then", that`s what I`m talkin`bout. Thanks for sharing such knowledge, It is true Many older folk did`nt have or could not acquire the education we `re so blessed to get today, But they learned by watching what they could see,hear or would experience in life, and would then pass it on to us.They were limited as far as T.V was concerned, some could not read or write. but they learned to survive.

When snakes begin and end hibernation depends on the prevailing temperatures of the geographic region. In tropical and subtropical regions they don't hibernate at all. In the coldest regions they don't exist. In intermediate climates they hibernate a longer or shorter time, depending on the length of the cold season.

These are simply folktales and have no bearing to truth. Temperature and the position of the sun are both influences that bring about the denning of snakes towards their den site. The ground temperature influences the snakes to emerge.
