Science is a method. Observe - Hypothosize - Test - Predict - Observe.

Nothing more. It's a tool to understanding the universe. Nothing more. Science is no more a curse or blessing than is a hammer or the letter "Q".

What humanity wishes to do with science is entirely up the human using it.

Here are a few differences:

before we had scientific farming we could produce enough food for about 500 million people. Now, we produce more than enough food for nearly 7 billion. And it is better quality food. And we know how to preserve it.

before we had modern health science, the average person in the world died at about age 35, Now, even in a lot of fairly poor countries, the average is more like 55, and in rich countries, over 75

before science, the only way to get around for the large majority of people was by walking, and the vast majority of people never went more than a few miles from where they were born. There were no schools (no technology of printing) and no more than a very small % of people could even read.

before science of engineering, there were only a handful of buildings larger than a hut - and those buildings often fell down!

before science, most people were wearing animal skins or really crude roughly woven cloth of whatever type was made in their own backyard... no imports or exports, hardly any dyes or colors, no sophisticated fabrics or comfortable clothes for the vast majority of people, no clean water to wash in, no spare clothes - most people only had one garment.

before science, no really good musical performances - no pianos, violins or or valved brass, no electric guitars, no amplifiers, no recordings, no video, radio or tv, no spotlights, etc

what did exist before science was, lots of wars including genocides and torture and slaughter on large scales - (like some described in the Bible), starvation and famines on a regular basis, ignorance, boredom, uncertainty, hate, and all the bad stuff in life. Science didnt bring on anything bad that didnt already exist that I can think of.

I would look at it as a blessing. Without it there would not be cures for many diseases or we wouldn't know what we do about space. Without science we wouldn't be as advanced as we are now. We would be still living in the middle ages.
