It was the Kingdom of Mercia that covered the area that might have been "Norsex" (today's Midlands). Mercia was founded by Angles, rather than Saxons. The Angles (who came mainly from the Schleswig-Holstein area of Denmark) are believed to have occupied the region, by moving in via the Wash and the River Welland. The Battle of Fehtan Leag (near Oxford) in 584 helped secure their dominance there. The Saxon tribes to the south and east of Mercia founded their own kingdoms according to the remaining geography - so Wessex for the Saxons in the west, Essex for those to the east, and Sussex for those further south (plus the short-lived Middlesex for the Saxons in the middle). A lot of history from this time is speculation based on place names and what archaeological evidence exists, because there is no contemporary written account. The website below has a lot of interesting details about the history of Mercia.

Not really an original question, a search on Google for Norsex finds several ones - with the interesting addition of Middlesex.

Anyways, the Norwegians have come up with an answer: the NORwegian Remote Sensing EXperiment, in short: NORSEX

Also Norsex apparently is a name in some books...
