I don't remember Iraq ever threatening the "freedom" of US citizens. Of course, NOW our freedoms are threatened by the heavy handed, illegal actions of the Homeland Security police...but that's a horse of an even brighter color, isn't it?
And, please, dear lord, answer this: How can we fight terror? Terror is an emotion, a feeling!!! If one means "fight against terrorism", then one should say so!!

Ah! Defiant One...You go on and on and on and on......just like that pink bunny. Has it ever entered your mind that we may have antagonized the people of the Middle East even more by our blatant invasion and our flaunting of their morals and mores? No wonder they hate us. So many of the outrages that you have so carefully enumerated have happened SINCE our heavy-handedness that I must come to the conclusion that we have provoked them. (And that has often been used as a defense in our own courts of law.)

And----I asked how it is protecting OUR freedom, not Israel's. Israel wanted to be there in the middle of people who traditionally hate their people, so...they have to fight their own battles.

Concerned Citizen made a really valid point, though he probably didn't want to make one that I could use. He said that Iraq was the only country where we could make a "case" for invasion: In other words, we were going in somewhere to protect "our" oil rights (read: " Rich people's "right" to even more obscene profits"), and we could tell a lie that would probably be believed by enough people that we could get away with it in Iraq.

in long terms, you can not prevent and prepare for war at the same time.. you're right, terror is an emotion and you can not change minds by bombing innocent people.

It doesn't as Iraq has never threatened the US, nor does it fight terrorism as there were no terrorists in Iraq until the US made the Iraqis hate the US.
The war is just an excuse for large US corporations to get oil for low costs and to make money on the war effort.
When you want to know how is behind something, follow the money!

To begin with, the actions in Iraq would have done very little to promote our safety. However, now that we have stirred up a hornet's nest over there, were we to remove ourselves prematurely, we would be allowing the entire country to become a training camp for our enemies. We don't belong there. We never belonged there. BUT at this point it is in our best interests to finish up in a decisive way and leave something there that will insure the place does not become more of a problem to us.

I hate agreeing with any Repblican concepts. I really do.

As for our civil rights being violated, there is no excuse whatsoever for that or violating the Geneva conventions. It is simply the disrespect for all things sacred by this administration that promotes such things.

It doesn't. In my opinion, Bush and the conservatives are the last people to be talking about freedom. They're not even for freedom in their own country.

It is just propaganda from the conservatives in the US, my country. Maybe one day we will find out what Iraq was really about. In my opinion though, as I've said many times, these wars are more about religion and money than anything else.

Sadam Hussain was a chief destabilizer in the middle east and with a flick of the switch could put the world econamy into a tailspin. If he wanted to he could have conspired with the fellow Sunni and anit west Al Qieda to do major harm to the US and its allies. And quite honestly, it was the only country in the axis of evil we could make a case for invasion at the time (UN inspector saga, documented palestinian terrorist funding, and its dangerouse proximity to saudi arabia).

i agree. terrorists are criminals and should be dealt with by police forces not military. military is for defense only. we are creating more terrorists by invading Iraq. Saddam was an evil man, but the neighboring countries kept Saddam from terrorizing anybody except his own people. now they're more unified against the u.s.
