Just yesterday i read excerpts of a book written by a person who was a prisoner there for 3 years and 10 months. It was horrible to read that how violent can one become. I must say that international community should act upon this unlawful vicinity as soon as possible

Excerpt of the books are found on the following URL. (In URDU)

To Gary F above me - Hey, you and I think alike :)

I am aware of everything you added in your additional details sections; although, I would add that you should use the 911 Commission Report for proof that Al Qaeda had nothing to do with 911. That report gives your argument more credibility over loosechange.

I am assuming by your question that you mean, "How do I feel about what the USA has done at G.Bay?"

I think the treatment of those prisoners is horrible, inhumane and Bush should be charged with war crimes.

I have been saying this for years ever since the Red Cross was denied access to prisoners and some prisoners still have not been charged.

Now with all that said, Coragryph is actually incorrect in his answer. Bush has NOT refused to comply. Bush is walking a borderline of guidelines set by the Hague Conventions which coordinate the International War Crimes Committees, ICC. Their main requirement is that a country violating the Geneva Convention must first try to work it out in their own courts.

That is what we are seeing now. Bush is not flat out refusing but rather trying to do two things:
1. Keep the case tied up in the courts in order to avoid the ICC
2. He is still trying to get away with his end goal of their treatment by recently demanding a precise definition of torture under the Geneva Convention... stating it is too vague to follow.
3. He is trying to have new legislation created that will conform to the Supreme Court 'problem areas' with his POW policies.

The Hague Convention needs to step in and give Bush deadline or he is going to drag this out even longer... he has been dragging it out for 3 years now.

This is similar to abu-ghraib. We would have been better off bombing every Mosque in Iraq. Then we would have been viewed just as mean.

Abu-ghraib and gittmo cost America its respect and moral-authority.

Iraq was always going to be a failure (every expert predicted a civil war - every person with any knowledge of the region knew).

But it didn't have to be a catastrophic failure. The one thing we couldn't do was to be hypocritical.

But we were. No one respects us, trusts us, or believes us. There is no telling how much intelligence information we are not receiving because we no longer have any friends.

And, if you right-wing-with-your-heads-in-the-sand-idiots want to argue that we can go it alone and we can beat up anybody - well, you are almost half right.

We can beat up anybody, the problem is - we cannot beat up everybody.

You also are probably unaware that Bin-Laden was not authorized to pull off 9/11 (it's true OBL is not THE big guy - he answers to others). In fact, he has spent the time since then trying to earn his way back into AQ's good graces.

Well children, Bin-Laden is off probation and allowed to attack again - and, he is allowed to kill up to 10 million. Literally, he got permission from his superiors to kill anywhere up to 10 million people (I don't know how they chose that number).

For the time being, he says he is content to watch us give up all of our rights and waste our money in Iraq. Who knew that Bush and company were going to take the opening and destroy America themselves.

All you conservative right-wing morons have destroyed what took more than 200 years to build. Now, Bill Clinton will go down in history as the last President to leave office when America was the economic, military, and moral leader of the world.

Bush will take the hit for the fall of the American empire.

Are you proud of yourselves, idiots? You destroyed America just because you hated Bill Clinton and, worse, you don't even know why. You let Rush, a fasting talking but ignorant guy who flunked out of an easy college, do your thinking for you.

America, destroyed by stupid white-trash Christians, who would have thought it?

BeachBum -

My thought on coragryph’s and your difference is that Bush simply ought not be dancing that close to the edge of definition/interpretation. The are so many disparate cultural perceptions involved (and no real supreme arbiter to fix definitions of anything) that if you try to inch as close to the line as possible, you are going to end up in someone’s cross-hairs.

At that point, the real truth (even if there is one) is irrelevant because belief trumps truth every time.

In addition, the fact that we are the biggest kid in the schoolyard means that we need to exercise even greater thought about what we do and the associated consequences. It is as if we are Bill Clinton and the rest of the world is Ken Starr. We know he is watching and we know that he wants us to make a mistake.

Sorry for the brief ramble – I think that even Bush just mentioning that he might be thinking about maybe looking into the fine print of something is enough to more than negate all possible positive results.

" I don't think Muslim terrorists should be kept in prison.... I would like to see them executed within 10 minutes of being captured... talk or die... then die anyway.... good riddance. And, why would you believe anything a Muslim terrorists writes??? "

Regarding the Authour, if they were a Muslim Terrorist...why have they been released? Dumb - ***!! Do you even think about what you're saying. Did you read it before you submitted it?
Do you know how many people have been held in Guantanamo and released without trial? Just think a little is all I'm saying.

OK,let's close Guantanamo Bay and all of the terrorists that are contained there will go live with you at your house.

people in the U.S. are becoming a bunch of lemmings and I'm afraid that the up coming elections is going to prove it,all of the fine citizens of the U.S. are going to bunch to gather on election day and vote Democrat or should I say rush in a big pack and jump off the cliff.

Gitmo is a US military base. The Supreme Court has ruled that 6th Amendment protections and Geneva Convention rules apply.

The Supreme Court has also ordered Bush to comply with those provisions, and Bush has refused. What the hell kind of country are we living in where the chief executive can simply refuse to follow the orders of the Supreme Court, and expect to get away with it?
