Caribbean:
Bread Fruit - brought to the Caribbean by Captain Bligh of Mutiny on the Bounty fame. The story goes that it was the Breadfruit that caused the munity because he insisted on giving the water on the ship to the Breadfruit seedlings instead of the crew.
Bread fruit is not a staple food and found all over the Caribbean.
