CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Al-Qaida in Iraq warned Pope Benedict XVI on Monday that its war against Christianity and the West will go on until Islam takes over the world, and Iran's supreme leader called for more protests over the pontiff's remarks on Islam.
On Sunday, Benedict said he was "deeply sorry" over any hurt caused by his comments made in a speech last week, in which he quoted a medieval text characterizing some of the Prophet Muhammad's teachings as "evil and inhuman" and calling Islam a religion spread by the sword.

Al-Qaida in Iraq and its allies said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross," saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose the 'jizya' tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (being killed by) the sword.

hum, let me see, Mohammed's teachings ( is lam a religion spread by the sword ( is ) " evil and inhumane". so al-qaida threatins with the very thing in which the Pontiff was qouated as saying ! lol , this not only irony/hypcrisy , at its best , but stupidity as well. especially to make the comment they did , about the very thing they are so upset about , truth hurts , , i mean it just proves the pontiff.s comment ,is in all reality , the plain truth, goes to show that ignorance is world-wide . lol

The problem with the thinking in today's world is that no one looks at history. Without going into a historical diatribe-
I can only assume that the irony that you are looking for is not only the genocide brought on by catholisism against the native peoples of all the americas but the call for thousands of years by the catholic church to wipe out the muslims by sword. In short, the crusades, which obviously goes on today.
