Well, for one thing, it has linked them via the Internet. There is even an on going program to "data base" every book that has ever been published. They (the books) are even being repaired and preserved for posterity. The library of congress is now just a few key strokes away. That is a whole new world that can be opened with the simple url "loc.gov". Beats having to drive all the way to Washington DC!!!

It has become electronic, is available via a computer and is now called the "Internet" and/or "World Wide Web". It never closes, but sometimes rooms get closed (sometimes permanently), although for the most part it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Sometimes parts of it are blocked or "closed for servicing" (server crashes and attacks) but it is almost always open and covers almost all of the entire world and beyond. You can watch videos from Mars, live as the transmission is decoded. We can hear music that is ten-thousand miles away and we can see places via webcams that we will never go to or could not go to such as the inside of a live volcano. The impact of modern technology on the library is that it has taken it from useful to amazing and even more useful. It can even translate languages, although not as well as human beings can do that. We can send pictures thousands of miles away in a second and have a video-telephone call via webcams too. We can watch live satellite pictures of the weather where we are and on another continent, and during the day or at night (infra red, etc.).
We can keep track of where we are on the planet, find out elevation, history... all kinds of information... in just a few seconds after pushing a button. I would say modern technology has made the library incredible.
