The British character actress Julie Walters plays all kinds of different characters of different ages and backgrounds and she is always totally believable. She once played an elderly Irish woman for a TV series. She was just so real with her tight perm and sneakers.
As for the boys...Laurence Olivier played all kinds of roles totally convincingly.
I know where you are coming from. Most of the obvious choices, old and new, just kinda play themselves.
