Trying to decide which interior doors to buy for my new house. The price is almost exact to the dollar so now it comes down to quality. Lowes carries the Reliabilt door by ABS and Home Depot carries the Jeld-Wen door. Does anyone have a reccommendation on one over the other? Please help me out with my decision. thanks!

This is a coin toss. About the only real difference might be the grain pattern in the embossed "six-panel" primed doors. You may perfer one pattern over the other. That being said, the rest of the doors are all but identical and either choice will be fine. For what it is worth, I prefer to shop at Lowe's.

Good luck with your selection.

I don't have a lot of experience with Jeld-Wen's doors, however I've done quite a few of their window installations and I am not very impressed. While their spec design is alright, their window products lack quality control and I have found numerous flaws caused by careless production procedures. I would imagine that their production quality standards are similar with their door products.

Unfortunately I havn't been exposed to the Reliabilt product so I can't comment there. The closest Home Depot for me is 1.5hrs away and the closest Lowes is 3.0hrs unfortunately.

Best of luck!

JELD-WEN attaches a $160 freight charge to each door you order from a store that doesn't carry them in stock. The Home Depot store near me carries Masonite in stock but can order JELD-WEN if you are willing to pay the freight charge.

One thing to consider is that there is no such thing as standard placement for hinges and locksets, so while company A might put them in one standard location, company B might place them where the parts for the two brands aren't interchangeable

they are actually really very comparable... if i were you i would pick the doors that look the best so that you will enjoy them longer plus then your wife won't nag as much... if it comes right down to it try to hanagle a little bit... if they know that you are trying to get a deal they might have a price beat guarentee or something... or maybe a deal to install... i personally think that Lowes has better looking doors...
