This seems to be a common issue (see links for how others handled it) unfortunately. If she opens a new account, yes she will lose everything, & no there is no way to transfer the info without being able to get into the old account.

Since yahoo is free, they have a customer care link (below) where they ask that you provide as much information as possible. Hopefully if you are verbose enough & the moon is in the right position in regards to fantasy island you might get a response. Though sometimes they do respond if it's a light day, just think of the hundreds if not thousands of emails they have to wade through. If you paid for the premium service you would have more of case. Again unfortunately free is free & they have no obligation to solve issues when they are providing a valuable service free of charge.

I would concentrate on how her account was compromised in order to prevent it in the future.

Don't respond to strangers IM's.
Don't transmit cofidential data (includes accessing email & online banking) via public wi-fi or unsecured wi-fi or even on public computers.
Always have a firewall (zonealarm - free)
Always have virus protection (AVG & Avast - free)
Spybot search & destroy - patrick kolla
Ad aware - lavasoft
Don't download programs from the internet unless you are 110% sure that it is from a reputable company & does not contain spyware or other nasties.
Don't go to questionable web sites.
& of course don't open questionable emails.
Don't keep passwords in easy to reach places like on a post it on your monitor or under your keyboard.
Don't have easy passwords. keep them random, long, and use caps, numbers, special characters.
Don't use the same password for everything. If one is compromised....

Those are a few ways to get your info stolen, there are a ton more but following these & becoming more security concious should keep you & your wife safer on the internet in the future.

Good luck & hope I helped

yes, call the 0800 number from the bank, evenry bank their own 0800 numbers.

if someone got on you wife account, did he/she add or take the money from your wife ?
if she/he added the sum, why bother ?
if he/she took the money, it is called stealing, report to the police.
