How old are you? Are you seeing tracers, or flashes?
My dad was seeing flashes in his peripheral and he had a detached retina. they had to inject a bubble of gas into his eye to hold the retina back in place.

I see those when I get a migraine. Sleep helps me not want to kill myself to escape the pain, at least for a few hours. Feel better.
