What? Buy a Colt .45!

But I like the .38 hollow bullet.

If accuracy counts, the revolver wins. If the number of rounds is the measure, then the extra 3-4 rounds in the 9mm is the consideration. Preference for me would be the .357 mag and should I need or only get .38special I can still use that type of load.

By sheer bullet size, .38 is larger, since 9mm weighs less. But grains, manufacture, and bullet size all come together to make out power. overall, at same grain, the .38 has more power. I'd buy a .380 auto over 9mm auto anyday, but I own .32 revolver and I would much rather have the sheer capacity of auto over any revolver...except .22 or .25 auto. Utterly worthless, those are. Like shooting pellet guns.

It depends on what you consider powerful. Powerful meaning it will knock someone down as it passes through or flattens out, or powerful meaning it will tumble through organs and flesh in a path of destruction? Awww, well, if you're really worried, get a desert eagle. Never even have to fire it - most folks just back down at that point.

Depends on the manufacturer...my Beretta 92f has a farther range than my Glock ....and my Smith and Wesson .38 has a lot of punch, but not a lot of travel as compared to both the Glock and the Beretta. Just depends on the make and model....
