When my son died of a drug overdose, his mom would not contribute to the cost of his funeral arrangments, even though she makes much more money than me. My family and friends, who the X loathes, gave 14,000.00 to bury Camron...his mom, brother, and her family contributed zero...I feel like sueing her to make her pay half of the cost, giveing 2500. back to my elderly parents, 3500. back to a personal friend, and 1000. back to the employers my son and I were working for when he died...are their any laws in the USA about whose responsibility it is to pay for the funeral of a family member, when the parents are divorced and the child is grown? Please help me work thru this....

I'm so sorry for your loss. Loosing a child is the hardest thing any parent can go through.
I can't believe that she and her family are refusing to contribute to his funeral. There are no words to describe how selfish and unfeeling she is being. This was her son for God sakes!
I don't know if you have any legal ground for a civil suit. Talk to a good lawyer in your area about your options. You would probably win though, she is being a heartless (you know).
My condolences and sympathies to you, and I wish you the best of luck.

A same situation happened to my husband when his brother died. My husband paid so much too the funeral home and his brothers were suppose too make up the diff. As far as we know they never did.
In your situation the mother should have helped with this. And i would think you have ever reason too take her too court and sue her for her part of this bill.
Sorry too hear about your son and i know it makes things more difficult when you have too mess with things like this.
but, get on it and sue her. This is her responsibility also you've done your part in this matter and she should do hers. GOOD LUCK

Unfortunately there isn't any legal grounds for you to recoop some of the expenses, You could try a civil suit, and base it on a moral obligation. This was her son too, and the courts may agree that she should financially contribute. Have you tried asking her? I'd start there first, and if you get nowhere, then consider suing her.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. If you signed the funeral contract agreeing to pay the bill, you then are the only person responsible, you cannot sue her or anything else, and you are soley responsible. I am so sorry for you loss. God bless.

I am so sorry for your loss. My best friends 17 year old sister passed away about a month ago and they played "In the Arms of an Angel" at her funeral. I hope you find the perfect song.

THE PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE, IF BAPTIZED I WOULD ASK THE GOD PARENTS FOR HELP ALSO. SINCE YOUR EX WIFE REFUSED TO PAY I WOULD TAKE HER TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT AND SUE HER FOR THE MONEY AND LET THE JUDGE DECIDE. IM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS AND HOPE THAT EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YOU..........
