I know there are many differences but I was wondering if any could think of somethings the genres have in common.

Hip-hop and rock both take their roots from African traditions.

The basis of both modern genres is the blues. What happened was that at one point one group took blues and focused on the more guitar-oriented side of it and started to push it from that aspect. From there you get a transition to Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. Ultimately, the blues were the foundation of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix and many of the other bands that today's rock bands claim to take their influence from.

Hip-hop also takes a nod from blues...but moved to focus more heavily on the rhythms and beats. From blues we later get rhythm and blues (R&B) and the Motown music scene. Hip-hop goes back even further into African musical tradition and incorporates the "call and response" technique from old ***** spirituals.

Artists like Jack White (from the White Stripes and the Raconteurs) and Wyclef Jean actually probably share alot of the same musical inspirations at their roots, but the end product, what they took from those inspirations, is what separates the two genres.

those track genres are very distant, so which you will receive so lots extra alterations than similarities. Hip hop grew to become into in fact African poetry formerly it grew to grow to be something particular here contained in u . s . a .. classic Rock has all varieties of subgenres, like hip hop, yet so lots extra. classic Rock has subgenres including Rock N' Roll, Acid Rock, Blues, steel, difficult Rock etc. Hip hop has Gangsta Rap, Horrorcore, Mafioso Rap, option Rap etc. classic Rock may well be from the 'ninety's, purely like hip hop, yet classic Rock is quite often in touch with the '60's and '70's.

Hip hop samples a lot of rock guitar rifs, or at least they used to when it was starting out. I don't hear it much anymore now that I'm gettin' old. =P

Neither were recognised as 'real' music by the older generation at first.

At the beginning of both movements, the older generation couldn't understand what the younger generation were listening to.

They are both used by the Devil to draw kids, and adults into lives of sex, drugs, and abuse. Garbage in, garbage out. Concentrate on things that are good and pure, heaven;y things. Give your life to Jesus Christ, and be delivered from your chains. God Bless.
