I've experienced living with either a friend or a stranger. I both liked living with them, eventually the stranger became my friend as well. You have two things to look for when trying to find a roommate and that is: Do you trust the person? and Is he/she financially responsible?
The trust part I'm sure you can count on the friend but i don't know the situation financially, but i say pick the friend. Besides its more fun.

It would be nice to room with a friend if you guys don't have a history of impatience with each other. But if it's a long term thing, sometimes it's better to room with a stranger. Sometimes it's easier to ease up our expectations with a stranger rather than a friend.

I cant see why anyone would prefer living with a stranger - you cant trust someone you dont know.
Wouldnt you be hoping to become friends with the stranger once they moved in anyway?

It s no point at all its too dangerous to live with a stranger and its too much drama to move in with a friend, but if you really must pick then let that person be your friend.

A friend! But always remember, living with someone, is different from just being around them, and sometimes it can enhance that friendship or go the other way and end it, so choose wisely! Things can happen that you are not even prepared for!
P.S. Mine went in an entirely different way, we fell in love! Neither of us were gay at all, but things happened and we remained very, very close till her heart just stopped one day in her sleep. She was my best friend and sometimes lover for 23 years! ( Love ya Lynn, where ever you are! )

Stranger is better, by far.
The quickest way to end a good friendship is by rooming together.
You get to know each other at your most annoying, and that just sucks.
