Another stats question....please help!?

A machine fills containers with a particular product. the standard deviation of filling weights is computed from past data is .8 ounces. if only 2% of the containers hold less than 18 ounces, what is the mean filling weight for the machinery?

Are you using z-scores? If so, the z-score at 2% is approx. -2.05, assuming an approximately normal distribution. If you use the z-score formula substituting -2.05 for z, 18 for x-bar and .8 for the standard deviation, you can find the answer for mu.
