I think if you are running a company you have to do what is best for your company and it's reputation.
Tom Cruise has always been a self centered individual. Case in point, during the taping of Top Gun. During the scene where his friend dies and they are in the ocean after the shoot he yelled at the film crew because he was not the first one taken from the water. After all he was the STAR.
When the person who is being paid by a company shows bad character and is a bad representative of that company then that person is fired.
Tom Cruise is that kind of person and he pushed HIS agendas so much that Paramount had no choice.

Tom Cruise was commanding about $20,000,000 a film, plus he had script approval, and a long contract. Paramount was trying to cut those ties that bound them to him so they could cut expenses and invest in younger talent. Only time will tell if they made a huge mistake but it is likely they did. He can get financing for his current projects and they may find that the Church of Scientology may tell other members like John Travolta and alike to black ball the studio for their arrogance. They got their nose rubbed in the mud here too.

I don't think it will bother his career at all. People will still see his movies, He's just going to form his own company, as a matter of fact, Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder has reportedly agreed to pay up an additional 200 million dollars for Cruise's future projects, in addition to the 3 million dollars he already gave to Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner for office overheads, in return for a "first look" at their projects.

Good for Paramount. They were thinking about the reputation of their company and the interests of the shareholders more than coddling a spoiled star who was tarnishing the image of anyone he got near. I was thrilled when I heard about it.

Deserves it. Well now he has time to perpetually snog Katie in public. He could also work on those couch jumping skills of his...But you can't deny that even tho' he may have become a real a** now he's still one of those no1 actors.
