simply, not only for it should be ,
but there is a deep vision to celebrate festivals
particularly, in Hindu religion
every aspect of life is weaved in festivals,
like, in summer Hindus celebrate which festivals ,
includes food, clothes , according to Summer which suits more appropriate to people
as same as in Winter, Monsoon also.
second point, mostly festivals are celebrated as per religious events, so we should be in touch during that time to God.
and the most interesting part of celebration of festivals is enjoyment , we get together so social contacts increase we can know and understand one another and about culture and also we make our culture live ........ otherwise all forget their own tradition, culture and
these all are there in celebration,
chemistry , social and neurological
festival means Change from the routine
so it works more on neurology.

We celebrate festivals because of the traditons laid out by our family and and our forefathers for generations, by which we are socially recognised in our society. We blindly follow it as a habit, without questioning why. It is good for the society as festivals bring a large group of people together, unity follows and a sense of happiness to attend the functions with many families together results.in happiness and a sense of well-being in a world where terrorism is prevalent, festivals and their celebrations are very colourful and preferable.
The Chemistry of festivals: The mixing of different castes of people from different walks and cultures of society, to form new traditions. E.g., Ganesh Chaturthy, was only celebrated by the Marathis of Maharashtra, now all the castes are aware of the Lord Ganesha and celebrate along with them. the chemistry of festival brings about the satisfaction of sharing cultures, of all festivals and festivity. Festivals also demand the partaking of food together of different tribes of people.
Sociology of festivals: The theology of myths we worship. it is embeded in the writings and scriptures from the beginning of the religious norms related to the festivals. e.g. the Puranas or the Sacred BOOKS like GITA. The Mahabharata and Ramayana are also sociologic books which clarify the traditions of festivals, as deepavali and Ramnavami is celebrated, so are the bithdays and death days celebrated of saints and great people.
Neurology of festivals: A very diversified topic. Here the traditional usage of cult of Relics is established. We have the Cross of Christianity, the Om and Swastika signs. A reference between ego and secular image is established. The symbols are very sacred and worn by people to protect them, as followed and part of festivals. all cannot be expressed in this answer as festivals are followed from the time of Manu.

Festivals is a word given to us by our elders like great great grand parents, great grandparents n so on. We have never seen any of them, we have only heard about them from our grand parents & parents. In order to remember our ancestors & keep up their believes we celebrate the festivals. The generations will go on and on celebrating that way.

Festivals are rituals that serve to internalize aspects of a society to an individual. When the individual partakes of a festival or any other ritual, he or she becomes invested in the hosting society, and therefore more likely to support the society than not. Repetition of rituals ties one more closely to the society.
