I have to agree with most others commenting. What we think of as Soviet communism was merely Totalitarian dictatorship. Cuba comes close, not because they wanted to, but were forced to by the US blockade etc. Today Denmark, Norway ,Sweden and actually Cuba if they are left alone are "Social Democracies
Democracy is nothing more than a beautiful concept that everyone in the world should be entitled to. However, it has one major flaw: It is the only door to capitalism.
Capitalism, and the human greed it fosters, is the terminal cancer that eventually consumes and destroys true democracy. People eventually become enraged at being raped by the rich and privileged, and rise up and revolt, and dictatorial government is the result.
The prime example of this simple fact is the wanton destruction of personal freedoms; the rape, murder, pillaging and occupation of other nations for their natural resources. .
The real tragedy of all this is that despots like George W. Bush claim they are doing this to preserve democracy in the U.S. The fact is Americans lost their democracy the day he became president. There is a way to preserve personal freedoms and
democracy; it is called social democracy. Social democracy allows everyone to benefit, not just the wealthy. Social democracy is not communism.Canada is getting there but we have a long road ahead of us

The idea of a classless, stateless society based on communal ownership of property and wealth, stretches far back in Western thought long before The Communist Manifesto. Some have traced communist ideas back to ancient times, such as in Plato's The Republic; or (perhaps with more justification) to the early Christian Church, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (see Christian communism). Other attempts to establish communistic societies were made by the Essenes and by the Judean desert sect. The Medieval Roman Catholic Church tried to end war by promoting communes (see Medieval commune#Medieval Christianity).

I believe it was Russia also, 1917 when the Czar Nicholas and his wife Alexandra were shot in the head along with their children, including, Anastasia. This was when what's his name came on the scene. Lenin, that the dude.

If you want to get technical, "communism" hasn't actually come to fruition anywhere. Socialism has been in places like Soviet Russia, Cuba, China, etc, etc...but technically, communism is still just a theory.
