Hi, Naye T,
To get "respect" from anyone, parents, older siblings, friends, superiors, etc., the number one thing you have to do is : earn that respect... The second thing is to have respect for others... In the case of Sib's that are older, don't do those classic things that younger brothers and sisters are famous for, like invading their territory and their privacy, telling false tales about them to parents, not keeping their secrets, and mouthing off to them, etc.
>>>>
Instead, give them the same considerations "you" would want from them, ask them questions and take their advice if it's good advice, thank them for doing things for you, and offering to help them... with projects or chores around the house. ..Do your share of the work, don't be a pest, and tell them how much they mean to you.... You will not only gain their respect, but also their love and their trust.... When you are grown, they will always be there for you and come to your aid....
>>>>>
We can't do much about what other people think.... What's important is to try to do our best in each situation... to be the best person we can be... Eventually, that does tend to affect the way others respect us, but it doesn't happen because we're focused on their opinions, its just a natural result of being ourselves...
>>>>
That is just my opinion!;)
Thanks, for the question!;)
My regards!

Respect is a highly cultural thing.
In some parts of the world, respect may seem like butt kissing.
In other parts of the world, respect means observing local customs even if it seems to be strange or superficial.
In yet other parts of the world, it means almost unfriendly or rude.
It really depends on where you are, who you are dealing with and what you have to do.
At the end, respect is what you might get if you are willing to pay.

It is not something that we are born with. It is something that we are taught and if we are wise we learn. Respect is what we show toward others.
One of the sayings that we hear is "Respect your elders" There are people who will try to do that even if they show it to no one else. It may not be out of a true respect for them as that the young do know that many an elder person controls the financial purse strings and by faking it they hope to gain some fall out from the purse. Also with the years the elders have the knowledge that they lack and they know that they may be in great need of some bit of knowledge.
What goes around comes around so if you want respect show respect. Do unto others as you would that others do unto you.
Respect in The Synonym Finder= esteem, high regard, high opinion, reverence, awe, adoration, worship, honor, praise, etc.

Respect means treating another with a certain amount of diffidence. Depending on your own social standing and that of the other. Also depending on your own attitude.
Only equals or betters can receive your respect. Those of a lower station can only be treated with kindness by those of a higher station.
Self respect means living your life according to moral rules.

To me 'Respect' means, others talking about me in the same way both in front of me and back of me. If we can achieve this, then we are surely getting respect from all.
'Respect' is not just saying yes to whatever we say, but accepting us truly without any reservations.

Respect to me means seeing life from many points of view in a non-judgmental way. It means listening to the other & desiring the other to be their "best self". Responsibility, care & concern would be included in my understanding. Before I can respect you, I had better respect me. :)

Tolerence for others and recognizing diversity and individual differences as a good thing. Acknowledging, even if I don't like someone, that they too are created in the image and likeness of God.
Humility: when I start judging or criticizing another, that maybe I need to start focusing on my attitudes and what needs to be changed in me instead of wasting my time taking another person's inventory.
Acceptance: of myself and others as imperfect beings who are "works in progress." There's some good in the worst of us, and some bad in the best of us.

respect is the treatment we show to others and consider them as important
if you want to show good respect first and foremost put yourself in there shoes then you will think of the respect they may deserve.
do good to others as you wish them to do and to you.

Well in my opinion respect comes in different forms.
1. You don't treat them like crap, and you certainly don't talk bad about bad about them.
2. You respect their descisions.
3. Treat them with diginity.
4. And just being all around nice to them! And not disrepecting them!
