I would suggest a Dell Inspiron because the tech support is a lot better and some of the laptops out here you can't upgrade since it's not designed to be upgraded. Dell also has a pretty reliable customer service and tech support hotline. Price wise Dell get hands up since I am typing my response on my Dell Inspiron and it's been very reliable for going on 3 years after receiving it as a birthday gift from my mother. Dell can practically build a computer to your liking, specifications, and fits your budget of what you're wanting to spend on a laptop. If you're looking for simple an Inspiron 1000 is about $500 that if you throw in a rebate and if you got one that's made for stuff like graphic arts and playing games it's going to run you around $1000-1200.

In my experience, MacBooks are hard for me to "handle" [I'm a PC chick]. I used to have a Sony, it was a great computer. But then it got too old.....:(.

Go with the Sony.
